HONORING OUR VETERANS AT LAMB FOUNDATION

For several years, military Veterans living in Lamb Foundation have pulled together as a fraternity and as friends who share a past, a present, and a promising future within Lamb’s home units. Each Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day we honor our veterans by organizing field trips, preparing special meals, and participating in church events, community celebrations and parades. This month we will be meeting with independent filmmaker Nina Gilberti, to discuss her upcoming documentary film titled, “When Jane and Johnnie Come Marching Homeless.” Veterans who live at Lamb Foundation will be encouraged to share their stories with Ms. Gilberti. Future Ewes eNews will report on Ms. Gilberti and her documentary. Visit www.lambstory.com for Purple Heart recipient “Richard C.’s Story.”

ARREE O'NEIL - RECOVERY, MOTHERHOOD AND SUCCESS

Two years ago, when Arree O’Neill came to Lamb Foundation, she was scared, alone, with few resources and reeling from a recent divorce from her husband and children due to her struggle with mental illness. Arree was committed to taking her own life back by securing housing, employment and the treatment she needed to restore her stability. Most of all, she wanted to be a healthy mother with consistent involvement in her children’s lives. This month, Arree will walk into her new, independent apartment. She will also be working full time at Lamb Foundation in a residential support staff position. Soon, her children will be visiting with her, and her new apartment will once again ring with laughter and shenanigans of growing, healthy children. As if this were not enough success in a short period of time, Arree will also be going back to college in the fall.

SOWING AND REAPING AT LAMB FOUNDATION

Five gardens have been planted at various Lamb Foundation homes – four vegetable gardens and one cutting garden for flowers - thanks to Lamb’s collaborative effort with Suburban Farming Company, which is owned and operated by Ron Ziegler of Lansdale. Crops include corn, beans, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, lettuce and lots of flowers. We have already begun harvesting, and just this week cut our first big mixing bowl of leafy, fresh lettuce. Thank you, Ron, Lamb Staff and all of our residents who have chosen to participate in this garden activity. Our end-of-year harvest will be weighed and donated to the Cornucopia Food Cupboard operated by Lamb Foundation in North Wales, so that fresh produce can be shared with our neighbors in the community.

LAMB PETS – THEIR OWNERS AND POLICIES

Recognizing the warmth, companionship and healthy emotions that a personal pet can add to one’s life, Lamb Foundation has eliminated its “No Pets” policy of the past. Only residents in good standing may apply to the Director for a pet to be included in their residential program. Pet owners need to first be taking good care of themselves and their living unit, which demonstrates that they are capable of being a “good parent” to a pet. Pet owners are responsible for their pets’ food, cleanup and veterinary needs. Owners are also responsible for any damage done by their pets. Current pets include small dogs, cats, birds, fish and bunnies. Lamb staff, with the Director’s approval, may bring their pets to work to share with the residents in their home units.
